Many people have thought about starting or running their own business at some point. Although many people want to start their own business many never will. The biggest reason for this is because they have no money to invest to get their business started. However with the right plan you can get it started. The best way to do this is to start establishing business credit.

Many people get confused and believe that business credit is linked to personal credit. However this is very inaccurate as the two are actually very different things. If you’re building business credit it’s important to know that some agencies that report to credit bureaus will actually sell a business a FICO score. There are many determining factors in what score they sell your business however the main two are your credit record and how big of a risk your business is.

If you’re in the process of establishing business credit then you will need to look for business that issue credit that won’t require a personal guarantee. You will also want to do a credit assessment to help you comply with the requirements of the credit bureau. Surprisingly there are many non-profit organizations and government organizations that will help you with building business credit.

There are three things that you will want to keep in mind when you are trying to start a business credit line. If you are filling out an application for a business credit card and it asks you for your social security number you will want to throw out the application and find another business credit card. This is because the card you’re looking at is actually a personal credit card that just looks like it would be a business credit card. Any applications that ask you for personal information are actually personal credit cards.

Next you will want to make sure that your business is setup properly. You should have your business incorporated and you’ll also want to have all of your other government forms filled out such as the Tax ID number.

Finally you’ll need to make sure that your business appears on a credit bureau.  By having these things in place properly from the start, you will be able to start your corporate credit easier. Many businesses, especially small businesses, fail to plan out the path that they want their business to take to ensure their business succeeds.

For those who do have a business credit line you will want to make sure that you are keeping up on your payments. Once you hurt your corporate credit it can be harder to repair than your personal credit. This also may lead to your business closing.

When building your business credit you should remember these three important facts. First never link your personal credit to your business credit as you may lose your personal assets. Second start your business credit endeavor as soon as you start your business. Finally don’t abuse your new credit line as it will come back to haunt you.
